My Favorite Authentic Asian Restaurants in San Diego

I thought it would be very logical to have my fourth blog post be about the Asian food in San Diego. I mean, after you figure out where to live, you need to figure out where to eat, right?!

I’ve narrowed down my personal favorites that I’ve gone back to many times. Most of these are located in the Convoy district, within Kearny Mesa.

Best Authentic Korean Food: Chon Ju Jip

If you want homey, no-frills Korean food done right, Chon Ju Jip is it. It’s a small place with limited seating, but they excel at every dish. My boyfriend and I love their Gamjatang, which is pork bone soup and we usually get moved to a big table since we order too much. I’ve also had them delivered over Doordash and everything was packaged well.

Best Spicy Korean Soup: Yuk Dae Jang

Yuk Dae Jang is a chain specializing in excellent Yuk Gae Jang – it’s a spicy and hearty Korean soup that has shredded beef brisket in it. There are different options for protein and noodles as well. If you come at a prime time, there might be a bit of a wait, but it’s definitely worth it.

Best Chinese Pan-Fried Pork Buns: Tasty Noodle House

I am Chinese American and I can say their pan-fried pork buns are just as good as the ones my mom made growing up! I also love how they cook their vegetables. Don’t be intimidated by their big menu – here’s my typical order: chow mein, sauted a-choy, and pork buns. Food comes out pretty fast!

My Favorite DoorDash delivery: Pho Time

I’ve ordered from Pho Time well over 20 times in the last two years. Here’s my go-to order: Pho with lean brisket and the crispy egg rolls, or if you’re feeling healthier, get the spring rolls. Perfect meal if you don’t have time to cook, or when you’re nursing a bad cold.

Best Bun Bo Hue: Pho Duyen Mai

Not all Vietnamese restaurants serve this incredible soup. It uses different noodles and broth base compared to your classic pho. I usually prefer this over pho because it has a stronger flavor profile infused with lemongrass and other spices, plus thicker rice noodles.

Happy eating! Let me know if I missed some of your favorite spots and I’ll be sure to check them out 🙂
